The White House pushes the National Guard despite Pritzker’s overthrow

“Governor Pritzker should spend less time demonizing police, more time trying to recruit more police, and more time trying to call the U.S. president to commit crimes in his city,” Levitt said. “The president hopes to allow law enforcement, whether state, local, federal, jobs, arrest criminals, put them out of jail, and eliminate public safety threats in the U.S. community, he will continue to do so.”

Pritzker, a Democrat who has not ruled out the presidential campaign in 2028, opposes the National Guard’s arrival in Chicago to resolve the crime and said Monday that the move would be “unconstitutional” and “non-American.”

“Donald Trump wants to use his military to occupy American cities, punish their dissidents and gain political points,” Pritzker said. “If this happens in any other country, we will effortlessly call it a dangerous force.”

Meanwhile, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said in a statement Friday that the crime was in Chicago and said the city has reduced homicides by more than 30%, robberies by 35%, and shootings by nearly 40% over the past year.

But the White House continues to point to local reports that as of the latest 2024 data, Chicago has murdered the most murders in any city in the United States in the past 13 years.

“Chicago has had the most murders in any city in the United States for 13 consecutive years,” Levitt said Thursday. “By the way, it’s the legacy of JB Pritzker.”

“He should put politics aside,” Levitt said. “He should answer the phone and call the president, who is happy to do the right thing through law-abiding American residents in the city of Chicago. We hope he can.”

Chicago has no most per capita murders and has not listed as the top five cities in per capita murders in a compilation of 2024 FBI data.

Trump revealed plans to mobilize troops from the DC National Guard on August 11, and the federal government will introduce the Metropolitan Police Department to the crime in the country’s capital. Since then, Trump said he may send National Guard troops to other U.S. cities, including Chicago.

“We go in and we will solve Chicago in a week, maybe less,” Trump told reporters Monday morning. “But within a week, we will have no crime in Chicago, just like there is no crime in Washington, D.C.,” Trump told reporters Monday morning.
