The Guardian published his own months-long Tait investigation on June 13, revealing stories of three young men accusing Tait of sexual assault, including two saying they believed he had drugged them in advance (one of them was a minor at the time). Four other people claimed that Tait had sexual misfits for them, one of whom was 13 years old, allegedly exposed his penis in the restaurant bathroom and stroked his cock.
Tait did not respond to Guardian’s request for comment at the time, nor did he respond to a second request for comment related to newspapers deleted by their record label.
Hayley Williams of Paramore posted an Instagram story with the title of The Guardian, covered in text, partially reading “I hope the CCM industry collapses.
Paramore is not a CCM band, but Williams has 4 million followers on Instagram – growing up in the Christian music industry, with the band’s former guitarist Justin York performing with Tait on his solo project. He and his brother Taylor York are both current guitarists for the band and the son of the former chairman and CEO of the Capitol Christian Music Group.
Williams wrote in her IG story: “What I have to say and the number of people I know may have been changed forever by this person and the industry that empowered him…”
Michael Sweet, a singer of the Christian metal band Stryper in the 1980s, mentioned Tait in a vague way Facebook Postswhere he stopped naming the singer but mentioned “what happened in the recent Christian music world” and added: “It is important to understand (I will not forgive any bad behavior or wrong behavior), that Christians are sinners. Questions about what the band might know about Tait’s alleged behavior—including allegations of sexual assault—were quickly distributed online. Darren King, drummer of Christian rock band Mutemath, posted a video on Instagram on Tuesday and described what he said was an uncomfortable encounter with Tait, who claimed he was inappropriately touching him at dinner about 20 years ago. In the Post, King said he contributed to the report in both the Guardian and the Reus Report.
“Someone can only do this predation level during this time (probably over twenty years),” said King, who has worked in the Christian music industry for 20 years. “I believe Tait has a group of people who spend time and money to clear his reputation, suppress criticism, suppress the truth.”
