Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg beat his moderate challenger to secure another term in his post on Tuesday.
Bragg, famous presidential law rival Donald Trump, Beat Patrick Timmins, who ran on a gentler platform. Timmins criticized Bragg for failing to prosecute certain crimes, and his campaign highlighted the case of targeted attacks by repeated offenders on two court officials.
Bragg won Tuesday’s primary with more than 70% of the vote, and he was convicted before he was re-elected to the White House in November. Bragg’s office filed a legal summary asking Judge Juan Merchan to put Trump’s conviction on the ice until after his second term.
“The immunity of the president-elect does not exist. Even after the inauguration, the defendant’s temporary immunity as the current president will not prove the extreme remedy for discarding the unanimous guilty verdict of the jury and eliminates the already completed phase of this criminal proceeding.”

Trump was found Convicted of 34 counts of forgery Business records in the Manhattan case in May 2024. Prague’s office worked hard to prove that Trump forged business records to pay former porn star Stormy Daniels $130,000 ahead of the 2016 election to quiet her claim about her claims in a 2006 lawsuit against Trump.
Trump maintained his innocence in the case and opposed the case, an example of the scope of the law brought by Democrats to harm the election work before November.
Bragg’s office acknowledged that Trump could not be sentenced to president, but argued that M Erchan had a variety of options until 2029 to keep the case on the ice and sentence Trump to Trump after a second presidential administration.
“[N]oThe principle of immunity excludes further litigation before the defendant takes office. Even if the verdict was not submitted at the time of the defendant’s inauguration, there were no legal obstacles to postpone sentencing until after the defendant’s term ended. ”
The DA’s office argues that the lawsuit will relieve the former president of any direct obligations from the former president and the upcoming president during this case. DA’s office has called for a stay in cases after the election, and Tuesday’s application doubled that argument.

“It is certain that there are questions about the need for resettlement of presidential immunity during the presidency. However, extreme remedies to dismiss the prosecution and revoke the jury verdict are not guaranteed given that the purpose of multiple alternative accommodations is to completely address the concerns arising from the presidential immunity.”
