FEMA employees take leave after signing letter criticizing Trump administrator

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) signed an open letter blasting the Trump administration’s employees of the office’s leadership for having their leave, while FEMA leadership then blasted “the bureaucrat who presided over decades of inefficiency” in an effort to “oppose the reform.”

More than 190 current FEMA employees signed an open letter on Monday criticizing the Trump administration for telling leaders that they lack the qualification to oversee institutions focused on the country’s preparations and responses to disasters. The letter released on Monday included the full names of at least 35 former and current FEMA employees, while most were “not listed” with signatures.

Signatories raised questions specifically about six measures by the Trump administration, including: “Reduced FEMA’s ability to perform its mission;” “No qualified FEMA administrator appointed”; disaster workforce; and “a censorship of climate science, environmental protection and efforts to ensure that all communities have access to information and resources”.

FEMA is currently led by David Richardson. Richardson replaced former agent Cameron Hamilton in May after telling members of Congress that he didn’t think it should be eliminated.
