“Our cards are bigger than their cards, better than them,” Trump told Oval Office reporters before a bilateral meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung. “They have some cards. We have incredible cards. But I don’t want to play those cards. If I do, it will destroy China.”
It is not clear whether Trump’s “card” refers to economic leverage, political influence or something else.

Trump also said he had recently spoken with Chinese President Xi Jinping, adding that he was considering a trip to meet with his peers as the two countries continued to negotiate trade terms.
“At some point, probably soon after this year or later, we will go to China,” Trump said. The president said last month that Xi Jinping had extended the invitation.
Washington and Beijing agreed on August 12 to extend their trade truce by 90 days, giving negotiators more time to reach an agreement. Trump has raised tariffs on all Chinese goods many times this year, with the highest duty in April reaching 145%. Currently, the tax on most Chinese import taxes is 30%. China has assumed 10% responsibility for U.S. imports.
