Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer plans to meet with disgruntled all-pro winger Micah Parsons about his recent preseason action against the Atlanta Falcons in the preseason.
Parsons missed the entire three preseason games in a contract dispute. He was the only cowboy player on Friday’s game against the Falcons and did not wear a jersey during Friday’s game. He lay on the training table behind the team’s bench while the Cowboys were offense in the third quarter.
Schottenheimer said on Saturday that he wanted to talk to Parsons about the matter, which was all the rage on social media.
“Not talking to Mika, I need to figure out what he is doing and why,” Schottenheimer said on the call. “So, until I talk to him, I obviously won’t talk about it.”
Parsons posted a quote for WFAA’s Mike Leslie post on social media after the game and said the players were at the training table, “a relatively short section at night.”
“I will never disrespect the guys who fight for their lives,” said four-time professional bowler Parsons.
Schottenheimer said Parsons mentioned tight tension in June at micro-training camp, and the MRI on Parsons’ back was “very clean”. The coach expects Parsons to prepare for the season’s opening match against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 4.
“I think [defensive end] We are our very deep field. ” Schottenheimer said.
It’s the latest episode of the almost daily soap opera between Parsons, who demanded a deal, Cowboy and long-time owner Jerry Jones. Late Thursday night, Parsons scrubbed the cowboys from his social media BIOS and posted a farewell video to the organization.
The 26-year-old is in the final year of his contract, but the Cowboys can use the franchise label to retain him in 2026 and 2027. From Jones’ perspective, he believes Parsons is basically not just a 2025 contract, but for the next three seasons.
“I can’t imagine anyone sitting for three years,” Jones said in an interview on Friday.
Parsons’ profiles on both his Twitter and Instagram pages list “TBD” instead of cowboys as employer. On Tiktok, he posted a video that seemed to say goodbye to him to the Cowboys.
Appearance On Michael Irvin’s YouTube show, Jones details what he said was a contract to Parsons, which would make him the highest paid non-quarter in the NFL.
“No one appreciates Micah Parsons more than Cowboys or I,” Jones said. “No one can give him more money than I play football.”
Parsons and Jones met earlier this year to discuss contract parameters. Jones said the two reached an agreement. Parsons said it was the framework for discussion between Jones and Parsons agent David Mulugheta.
“When we wanted to send details to the agent, the broker told us to stick with it,” Jones said. “That’s it, you know it.”
It is not clear when the Cowboy will contact Mulugheta, whether it was soon after the meeting or since Parsons publicly requested a public deal on August 1 as his relationship with the front desk continued to decline.
Parsons attended the training camp but didn’t, and the video just inspired speculation that he would sit this season and sacrifice a huge pay raise in 2025.
The Cowboys chose Parsons, the 12th draft pick in the 2021 draft, who signed a four-year, $17.1 million contract. The Cowboys earned his fifth year of the season, a $24 million option.
