US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth His agency’s initial intelligence assessment of the damage to the Iranian nuclear site has angered Donald Trump, according to two people familiar with the matter and a White House official.
According to the people, Lieutenant Jeffrey Cruise will no longer serve as head of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), who spoke on anonymity because they have no right to discuss it publicly.
The firing was the latest turmoil in the U.S. military and intelligence agencies, months after details of the preliminary assessment leaked to the media. It found that Iran’s nuclear program resumed only in just a few months after the U.S. strike trump card Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Republican U.S. president declared Iran’s plan “completely and completely eliminated” and rejected the report.
In a press conference following the June strike, Hegseth slammed the media for focusing on preliminary assessments but provided no direct evidence of destruction of Iran’s nuclear production facilities.
“You want to call it destroyed, you want to call it defeated, you want to call it obliterated – choose your words. This is a successful attack in history.”

In April, Hegseth fired Tim Haugh as head of the National Security Agency and deputy ADM Shoshana Chatfield for senior NATO officials.
The Pentagon has not yet provided a public explanation for any of these guns, although the government believes some officials are in support of diversity, equity and inclusion programs.
