FBI searches Trump adviser transformed into criticized John Bolton’s home

FBI agents searched the home and office of John Bolton, former national security adviser for Donald Trump, on Friday as part of a clear investigation into the processing of classified information.

The high-profile Republican aide has been a voice critic of Trump since his resignation in 2019, after being accused of abuse of confidential information by the White House in his 2020 account with the president.

The FBI has not commented in detail, but sources familiar with the search told CBS News that this part is related to confidential documents.

Bolton, who has not commented on the investigation, has not been detained and has not filed criminal charges.

Asked by reporters, Trump said what the significance of the investigation was, and he did not want to “want to participate in” the matter, but called Bolton “Sleazebag.” The president said he did not order a search directly.

In an interview with NBC News, Vice President JD Vance said that the confidential documents are, of course [the investigation]“And also hints at “wide attention” to Bolton without providing more details.

He said the FBI would file a lawsuit against Bolton only if it was “confirmed that he had violated the law” and said the investigation was not politically motivated, as Democratic politicians claimed.

Police cars and FBI personnel were seen at Bolton’s home in the suburb of Bethesda, Washington, D.C., on Friday morning, and some of them were seen holding boxes inside the property.

In a statement sent to CBS, the FBI said it was conducting “authorized activities in the region.”

FBI agents were also seen in the Bolton office in Washington, D.C.

Bolton returned to his home in Maryland Friday afternoon but did not speak to reporters outside.

In 2020, Bolton wrote the room for the incident, and his memoirs recounted his time working in the first Trump administration between 2018 and 2019, which was very critical of the president.

“A series of facts show that Trump is not suitable for president,” he wrote in it.

The Justice Department accused Bolton of “blatantly breaching” the agreement for not disclosing confidential matters, but the lawsuit was dismissed in June 2021 with Joe Biden as president.

Around the time when the search began, FBI Director Kash Patel posted on X that “No one is above the law.” The post does not specifically mention Bolton.

Attorney General Pam Bondi shared the post, adding: “The security of the United States is not negotiable. Justice will be just. Always.”

Bolton served as George W Bush’s UN ambassador – in January his Secret Service protection was stripped of by the Trump administration, as well as several other former officials clashing with the president.

Bolton also openly questioned the government’s handling of the war between Ukraine and Russia.

Trump has been highly criticizing Bolton in public, accusing him of being a national security adviser during his time as a foreign military intervention.

Other Trump opponents, including New York Attorney General Letitia James and California Democratic Senator Adam Schiff, have also been investigated since he returned to office.
