Huo Nan reportedly opened the bag on the way to the subway and saw a red envelope containing at least one $100 bill and several $20 bills. New York City reported that Honan called Greco, who said she had left the area. When Honan said she had to return the money, Greco suggested they meet in Chinatown. According to the city, Honan texted Greco asking when she could refund the cash, but received no reply.

New York City was interviewed by Greco later that day, and she reportedly tried to apologize multiple times, saying she had made a “mistake”. Greco reportedly told the publication that it was a “cultural thing” and that she “just wanted to be her friend.”

The publication said it contacted the Department of Investigation (DOI) after the incident.

Greco’s lawyer Steven Brill denied the move as “evil”, saying that donating money to others is a sign of “gratitude and friendship” is a Chinese custom. Although he didn’t explain why it was hidden in a bag of fries.

“It’s not a reward. It’s not a handover bag of cash. It’s nothing more than a kind attitude because the tradition of China is to give money to others as a form of gratitude and friendship. She knows the journalist and likes her very much. It may be strange, but it’s not surprising.”

When Huo Nan returned to her office, she handed her bag to the editor, and it was published New York City Investigation Department. The city said it did not open the envelope or calculate the money inside.

The report shows that since then, the Adams campaign has banned Greco from participating in activities related to volunteer campaigns.
