tIger Woods will host the newly created PGA Tour The Commission aims to reshape the U.S. competitive landscape in the U.S. But comments from the tour’s newly appointed CEO Brian Rolapp show that the unification of the sport’s traditional ecosystem and Saudi Arabian-backed LIV Tour is as always.
Woods has not been in the game due to injury since the 2024 Open Championship, and his title was titled when Rolapp spoke to Atlanta’s media on the eve of the Tour Championship. The CEO has served in just three weeks and has also formed a future competition committee that will also feature Patrick Cantlay and Adam Scott. Rolapp seems to be clear that the landscape of the tournament must change.
“The purpose of this committee is very simple,” Rollapp explained. “We will design the best professional golf competition model in the world to benefit the PGA Tour, players and their partners. Its goal is overall competition. This includes the regular season, the playoffs and offseason.
“We will focus on the development of the competition model and the sponsoring elements and models of the corresponding media products and the movement as a whole. The goal is not a gradual change. The goal is a significant change.”
Creating meaningful breakthroughs between PGA Tour seasons and ensuring that the most compelling players will play in top events is a logical starting point for Woods.
Press conferences like this tend to focus on progress in dealings between the PGA Tour and Saudi public investment funds. A framework agreement was signed between the two sides in the summer of 2023, with the aim of uniting elite golf. However, progress is slow. The PGA Tour rejected various franchise requests filed by PIF in late March in exchange for a $1.5 billion investment. Key figures in the sport, such as Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, played under the Liv banner and were therefore the main absentees of the PGA Tour.
Rolapp admits that he has not yet discussed it with PIF. “My main focus will be to strengthen the tour,” he said. “Blank paper means blank paper. I will be actively pursuing it anyway. That’s what I think.”
During the Players Championship five months ago, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan revealed that 70% of fans were wanted by fans surveyed. Rolapp responded to this view in June. Rolapp forces him to agree whether golf viewers want to see the best competition in the game compete against each other, but Rolapp seems to be backtracking. “Yes, golf fans want to see the best possible game in the sport they love in competitive models,” he said.
The CEO then seemed to challenge whether unity should be a priority, and seemed to object to the “liv issue.” He added: “I will focus on what I can control. I will give you a collection of the best golfers in the world. I think there are a lot of metrics that show, from ranking to ratings to whatever you want to choose. I will tend to tilt and strengthen that.”
“I also want to say that we will do that within the scope of what we can do that will further strengthen the PGA Tour. I’m interested in exploring anything that strengthens the PGA Tour.”

Scottie Scheffler refuted the similarities with the once tenacious woods when he tried to finish a sensational season in the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup victory. World Season 1 won five times in 2025, including two Grand Slams, splitting itself into the main character of golf.
“It’s very stupid compared to Tiger Woods,” Scheffler said. “Tiger is a guy standing alone in a golf game, and I think he always will. Tiger inspired an entire generation of golfers. You grow up and watch that guy gets rid of what he does for a week, and it’s amazing to see it.”
Scheffler played a honor in his development after winning a few championships in the 2020 Masters. “I only participated in one round of tournament golf with Tiger Woods, and that completely changed the way I watched my game,” Scheffler said.
I can’t tell you the expression on his face when we reach the first green. I looked and we were in 20th place, Yada, Yada, Yada, Yada, Yada, I looked and I looked and I just locked. I was surprised. I am like, divine smoke. Then we went to the second hole and he never did like this, like me, and I started when I was like that. This is something I have in my life. ‘”
