Trump orders comments about the Smithsonian Museum as “wake up”

He added: “This country cannot be awakened because it wakes up and breaks. We have the “hottest” country in the world and we want people to talk about it, including in our museums.”

The letter directed Smithsonian leaders to provide exhibition plans, internal guidelines and U.S. 250 programming materials for review.

“As we prepare to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation, our National Museum reflects the unified, progressive and enduring values that define American stories, which is more important than ever,” the letter said. “This initiative is intended to ensure consistency with the President’s directive to celebrate American exceptionalism, to eliminate division or partisan narratives, and to restore confidence in our shared cultural institutions.”

According to the executive officer, the review will focus on public-oriented content, curatorial processes, exhibition plans, collection use and overall narrative standards.

The initial phase will target the National Museum of History, the National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the National Museum of American Indians, the National Museum of Air and Space, the Smithsonian American Art Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery, and the Hillshan Museum and Sculpture Garden.

Despite sharp remarks, the letter said the White House viewed comments as a constructive process.

“Our goal is not to disrupt the day-to-day operations of curators or employees, but to support a broader vision of excellence that demonstrates the historically accurate, exciting and inclusive portrayal of American heritage.”

The schedule requires the museum to submit the required materials within 30 days, arrange employee interviews within 75 days, and start implementing content corrections within 120 days. Corrections apply unified, historically accurate and constructive descriptions instead of “schismal or ideologically driven language”, the letter said.

White House officials ended the letter by taking the initiative through their collaborative efforts with Smithsonian staff. “We see this process as a collaborative and forward-looking opportunity that allows museum staff to embrace an exciting curatorial vision rooted in the power, breadth and achievement of American stories,” the letter said.

“By focusing on Americanism – the people, principles and progress that define our nation – we can work together to renew the role of the Smithsonians as the world’s leading museum institution.”

The White House and the Smithsonians did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
