Republican state legislator California A lawsuit was filed Tuesday to block the mid-year re-division plan, aiming to oppose Texas’ efforts to reapprove the congressional region.
The emergency petition believes California The General Assembly violated the law that took 30 days between the introduction of legislation and the vote on it.
The vote of “a map unilaterally prepared with the Legislature” shows that the public will introduce to the public rather than a month-long process of transparency and participation overseen by the Independent Citizens Re-divided Committee,” Senator Tony Strickland (Tony)
California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the state’s re-division plan last week on social media, mocking Donald Trump’s exaggeration, intending to use the voting rights of the U.S. state’s most populous to offset the redrawing of Texas, which is expected to net five congressional seats in 2026.
Newsom praised California’s efforts on Monday, saying it was a necessary response to Trump’s impact on the redistricting of Texas and other Republican-led states.
“We won’t be idle when they order Texas and other states to drive the next election,” Newsom said, adding that the proposal made Californians “option to fight back.”
In order to participate in the special elections in November in a timely manner, the state legislature must pass the plan this year. Just as a common practice at the end of the legislative provisions, California lawmakers took an existing bill and placed their language in language and replaced it with legislation to cover the state’s neutral redistricting committee to introduce the map to voters.
The law firm Mandeep Dhillon filed the lawsuit, previously owned by Harmeet Dhillon, who is now the Assistant Attorney General in charge of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division. Dhillon is known for prosecuting the University of California system for his efforts to overturn policies, which prevented controversial conservatives from emerging. She sold her company to her brother, Mandeep Singh Dhillon, after Trump nominated her to take over civil rights enforcement in the administration.
The lawsuit does not challenge the “gut and amendment” in principle, but requires the court to “force external constitutional constraints on the protection of the people’s rights by the legislature.”

Republicans in California denounced the proposal as an attack on an independent redivision commission approved by voters in the state and said they plan to introduce legislation to advocate the creation of similar mapping agencies in all 50 states.
“Governor News Nom, it’s nothing more than a snatch of power,” Strickland said at a press conference in Sacramento.
He warned that the re-divided tit tat set a dangerous precedent that would not be easily revoked. “The tolls on the Golden Gate Bridge should be temporary,” he added. “You are still paying for the loss.”
The legislature can send the measure to voters for approval on Thursday, KCRA reports.
House Republicans currently have three-seater majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, while Trump has pushed for a redefinition of regional boundaries before next year’s midterm elections, and presidential parties usually lose seats. Republicans are also expected to revise the congressional districts of Ohio, Missouri and Florida and potential Indiana.
