His behavior was so problematic, according to the documents that a Washington State University faculty member told colleagues that if he became a professor, he might stalk or sexually abuse future students. She urged her colleagues to cut Koberg’s funds to remove him from the plan.

Kohberger was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole in July for stabbing Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin in a rental house in Moscow, Idaho.

WSU faculty told investigators that Kohberger sometimes entered an office where several female graduates worked and their bodies blocked the door. Sometimes, she would hear one of the women say, “I really need to leave here” so she could pray in intercession by entering the office to allow students to leave.

Faculty members believe Koberg is following people. She told police that someone reportedly broke into the female graduate student’s apartment in September or October and stole perfume and underwear.

An unnamed doctoral student in the same program as Kohberger told police he enjoyed conflict, demeaned women, and particularly enjoyed talking about sexual thefts – his field of study.

She told the official that some in the department believed he might be a future rapist and speculated that he might be an “incel” or an involuntary celibacy.

About three weeks after the murder, Koberg told the doctoral student that the person who committed the crime “must be pretty good,” Idaho Police Detective Michael Van Leuven wrote in a report. Van Leuven wrote that Kohberger also told the woman that the murder could be “one thing after another.”

The woman “said she had never met anyone who acted in such a condescending way and wondered why the authority in the department did not address his behavior.” “The way he talked to the women in the department was disturbing them.”

A lecturer told police she was assigned to work with Kohberger on her PhD. She said that in late August 2022, she began receiving complaints about students and staff in the criminal justice program.

The coach told police she spent a lot of time talking about Koberg at the discipline meeting.

“The meeting focused on Koberg’s interaction with graduate students, in the classroom, and his actions around some of the criminal justice professors,” the investigator’s report said.

Idaho State Police Detective Sean Prosser wrote in a report that the school filed nine complaints about his “rude and derogatory behavior towards women” to faculty, staff, administrators and other students. In response, the school held mandatory training courses on behavioral expectations for all graduate students.

According to police reports, many of Kuberg’s classmates and WSU coaches did not suspect that he was involved in the murder. But at least one classmate noticed that his behavior changed after the murder.

The student said Koberg used his cell phone frequently before the murders – but stopped taking the cell phone to class after the murder. The student told police that he also seemed even more dissatisfied in the weeks after the murder, and she thought it was strange that he had never participated in a conversation about Moscow’s death.

She eventually called the police prompt line and reported that she had seen Koberg see Koberg with his bloody knuckles before the murder, and his hand looked like he had been hitting something.
