Texas police are looking for a man they say is “erroneously” released from prison as he will begin a sentence of seven years.

Tory Dugas, 36, was sentenced to five years in state jail for evading arrest for assaulting a family member, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.

Instead, Dugas, who has been in the Harris County Jail since Thursday on other charges dismissed, was released on Sunday at 04:30 local time.

The sheriff’s office said a “thorough investigation” is underway to determine the reason for his “misreleased” from prison.

The office says in an office statement. It leads to the assumption that Dugas is eligible for release.

Police spokesman Jason Spencer Houston Chronicle Citation It’s like saying that the prison didn’t realize Dugas was missing until Monday morning before officials checked the list of people to be transferred to state custody.

Police asked the public to contact them if they found Dugas.

This is not the first time Harris County Jail has mistakenly released someone.

Earlier this year, a man arrested on death penalty charges was released from prison after being confused by others with the same name. However, the man handed over himself after 24 hours of freedom.
