“Ukraine did not enter NATO,” Trump said.

Donald Trump said the Ukrainian president could end the Russian war “if he wanted”, but as part of the peace agreement, he would “not go to NATO to enter NATO.”

Trump, in the hours he will host Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, also said he would “never come back” the Crimean Peninsula, which Moscow illegally annexed in 2014, eight years before the launch of a full-scale invasion.

Trump’s remarks following the summit with Alaska Russian leader Vladimir Putin led the U.S. president to abandon the need for a ceasefire and instead call for a permanent peace deal.

After arriving in the U.S. late Sunday, Zelensky repeated his call for effective assurance from his allies.

The U.S. envoy said on Sunday that Putin had agreed to create a NATO-like security contract for Ukraine.

The Russian president has been opposed to the idea of Ukraine joining the military alliance.

Trump said on Sunday night when he posted his truth social platform: “Ukrainian President Zelenskyy can end the war with Russia almost immediately and he can continue to fight if he wants.

“Remember how it started. Not back to Obama gave Crimea (12 years ago, no shot!), nor was it being entered by Ukraine in NATO. Some things never change!!!” Trump added.

Before Trump returned to power in January, NATO countries reached an alliance’s “irreversible path” about Kiev’s “irreversible path”.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, along with European leaders including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, will hold talks in Washington with Zelensky on Monday on the future of Ukraine.

French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb and European Commission President Ursula von von der Leyen. It is not clear how many of them will go to the White House.

Trump later added: “Tomorrow’s big day at the White House. There have never been so many European leaders at one time. My honor is to receive them!!!”

Zelensky posted on social media that he expressed “gratitude” for Trump’s invitation. “We all have a strong desire to end this war quickly and reliably.”

He also doubled the need for effective assurance guarantees from allies, “unlike a few years ago… At that time, Ukraine was called “security assurance” in 1994, but they did not work.”

“Of course, Crimea should not give up,” he added. “Just as the Ukrainians did not give up on Kiev, Odessa or Kharkif after 2022”.

For so many heads of state travel, it was hardly noticed on the Atlantic that it was a meeting of wartime crisis, and in the modern era there was no precedent, which emphasized high bets.

Diplomatic sources say European officials are worried that Trump may try to urge Zelensky to agree to the term as Ukrainian leaders were excluded from Trump-Putin meeting last Friday.

But U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told CBS, a U.S. partner of the BBC, that any advice Trump could bully Zelensky to accept the peace deal was a “stupid media narrative.”

NATO leaders are also eager to avoid repeating Zelensky’s February trip to the Oval Office, which ended abruptly after a fight with Trump and U.S. Vice President JD Vance.

The dispute – Trump accused Zelensky of “gambling with World War III” – put Washington-Kevis’ relationship in trouble.

But European leaders have been working hard behind the scenes to fix the relationship since then. The Ukrainian leader has been directed to make a deal-the language that resonates with Trump.

By July, the two leaders had called it, and the Ukrainian president called it “the best conversation we have ever had.”

Meanwhile, Trump has begun to express his anger at the fierce attacks on Russia in Ukraine. He called Putin “absolutely crazy”, greatly shortening his deadline for reaching a peace agreement and threatening economic sanctions on Moscow.

With these deliberations efforts, Russian troops continued to advance on the battlefield. They now occupy almost one-fifth of Ukraine since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.

A virtual summit was held between Zelensky and the so-called Willing Alliance – a group of countries including Britain, France and Germany, who once Ukraine is achieved, promised to protect Ukraine’s peace.

Afterward, Emmanuel Macron told reporters that their plan was to “propose a unified front” for talks with Trump on Monday.

Zelensky and NATO leaders said they were eager to learn more after U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff told us that TV said Putin agreed on Friday that “strong security guarantees I would describe as a game changer.”

Such a deal could allow Europe and the United States to protect Ukraine from further aggression through a defense agreement like NATO.

“We are able to win the following concession: The United States can provide protection similar to Article 5, which is one of the real reasons why Ukraine wants to appear in NATO,” Witkov told CNN on Sunday.

Putin has long opposed Ukraine’s accession to NATO, and Witkov said that if Ukrainians “can live with it”, then this arrangement could be another option.

Article 5 is the core principle of a 32-member transatlantic military alliance that says its members will defend allies under attack.

Vikov also told CNN that Russia has made “some concessions” in Ukraine’s fiercely competitive areas.

According to European officials, during talks with European allies after the Alaska summit, Trump said Putin reiterated his hope that the Donnask and Luhansk regions constitute the main region of Donbas in eastern Ukraine.

However, at a virtual summit with NATO leaders on Sunday, Zelensky stressed that the Ukrainian constitution made it impossible to abandon territory – a trilateral summit with the United States can only be discussed.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Secretary of State tried to downgrade, hoping to end Europe’s deadliest conflict in 80 years of deals that could be imminent.

“We have a long way to go,” Rubio said on Sunday.
