California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Thursday that state Democratic lawmakers will pass a redistricting plan to directly respond to Texas’ Republican-led efforts in Texas to redo the congressional map to control the majority after the midterm elections.
Congressional Democrats and legislative leaders joined Newsom to unveil his plan, known as the Election Manipulation Response Act, covering the state’s independent map production committee and approving a new congressional community that aims to “neutralize” Texas’ proposal.
“Today is here CaliforniaNewsom said in Los Angeles that it formally called for a special election on November 4, requiring voters to approve a new Congressional map. “We can’t back down and watch this democracy disappear and areas across the country disappear.”
As he spoke, armed and masked federal agents appeared outside the building at the National Center for Democratic Protection within the National Museum of the National Museum of the intentionally selected, led by Gregory Bovino, head of the Border Patrol El Centro division. Local news footage shows a man being handcuffed.
Newsom told reporters after the rally that the Border Patrol’s presence was “pathetic and pathetic” and accused Trump of organizing a raid to intimidate Democrats. “Wake up, America,” he said. “If he drove this election, you wouldn’t have a country.”
The White House did not immediately respond to comment.
