Sky Sports is in high-level negotiations on signing a new contract for a new six-year UK field rights. Golf is open to the United States.
Sky’s current contract expires next year after the Shinnecock Hills Championship and is expected to beat other broadcasters including Netflix to secure the expansion.
The new deal will solidify Sky’s homeland in UK television golf, as it currently has all the professional rights for both men and women, the Ryder Cup PGA Tour and DP World Journey. The PGA Tour agreement will expire next year and Sky is expected to seek an extension.
Sources involved in the tender process said Netflix also made a reliable offer, reflecting its growing interest in getting sports content.
