The Kennedy Center’s Trump announced his honor that day
Hello, welcome to American politics Real-time blog. My name is Tom Ambrose and I will bring you all the latest news.
Let’s start with the news Donald Trump will visit the Kennedy Center on Wednesday, announcing the honors of this year on the same day..
Trump avoided the Kennedy Center honors in his first semester after artists said they would not be out of protests. This year, he took over the new chairman of the Kennedy Center and fired the board, replacing the board with loyalists.
Trump mocked the Performing Arts Center’s name in a social post on truth Tuesday and said it would restore its former glory, the Associated Press reported.
“I mean, the great nominee of the Trump/KF Center, the Kennedy Center, the awards,” Trump wrote. He said the work is being done on the site, which will “restore it to the absolute highest luxury, charm and entertainment.”
“It has been in trouble during the difficult times, but it will make a comeback soon!!!” he wrote.
It is unclear how to choose this year’s winners, although Trump said he wants a more active role. Historically, the bipartisan advisory committee has selected recipients, and over the years, they have ranged from George Balanchine and Tom Hanks to Aretha Franklin and Stephen Sondheim. A message sent to the Kennedy Center Press Office asked how to choose this year’s winners did not return Tuesday.
However, the Kennedy Center did post this on social media: “It’s coming…a country music idol, British, New York City rock band, dance queen and a multi-billion dollar actor walking into the Kennedy Center Opera…”
