The Texas Senate approved a new Republican map Tuesday night, which led to Texas’ House Democrats fleeing the state.
Although Texas House Democrats remained in the woods to prevent Republicans from leading Republicans to remake the state’s congressional map, the Senate was still able to get a quorum and pass the map. They must pass in the house now, but it is not clear when it will be possible.
During the vote, nine Democrats left the floor in protest, but two Democrats were still on the floor, allowing the Senate to reach its quorum. By voting 19-2, the vote passing the new map was finally approved by the Senate.

“The redistribution in this decade has nothing to do with fair representation, it’s about politicians choosing voters, not voters choosing leaders,” the Senate Democratic caucus said in a statement. “And it won’t stop here. If they can Gillimander now, they can and will do that before each election.”
Republicans in Texas began pushing for new maps after the Trump administration directed state officials to violate the Voting Rights Act.
The Republican majority in the Texas House of Representatives issued a civil warrant last week to force absent Democrats to return, but because the warrant is not guilty, they can only be enforced within the state boundaries and will not lead to jail.

But, Republican Republican attorney General Ken Paxton, said Texas Republicans are seeking to take advantage of “every legal remedy we deal with to keep these rogue legislators accountable.”
State Sen. Mayes Middleton told Fox News Digital that the Exodus case of Texas Democrats hampered crucial legislation, in addition to blocking the re-division bill in Texas Republicans.
