Former Geoff Duncan Abandons joins Democratic Party

Former Geoff Duncan announces that he is leaving the Republican Party and joining Democratic Partyhe said the move has been a long time since he was responsible with the Republican leader.

Duncan, who served as a Republican Lieutenant from 2019 to 2023, wrote in an Atlanta Journal-Constitution column on Tuesday that his path to becoming a Democratic Party began before the president Donald Trump Duncan criticized the losses of attempts to overturn former President Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.

“My journey to becoming a Democrat started with Donald Trump trying to steal Georgia’s 2020 election,” Duncan wrote in the newspaper.

“There is no date on the calendar or online,” he continued. “It shows that my political heart has changed the exact moment, but that has happened.” “My decision is focused on my daily efforts to love my neighbors as Republicans.”

Duncan pointed to several policy issues that played a role in his decision to change the party, criticizing Republicans for dealing with issues such as health care, Medicaid, gun safety, immigration, and how to help the poor.

He said his time in the office taught him the best way to “love my neighbors” is through public policy. Prior to his tenure as a lieutenant, he served in the House of Representatives in Georgia from 2013 to 2017. He chose not to participate in the 2022 re-election of the deputy governor.

The former Republican said Republican lawmakers have advocated for decades that the solution to no health insurance is to get a job, but noted that most uninsured people in Tao State live in working families but do not have insurance due to affordability or qualifications.

“So the reality is that they have a job and just do the wrong job,” Duncan wrote. “A person who doesn’t offer health insurance or earns enough extra money per month to cover their own health insurance plan.”

Duncan also said the Trump-backed spending bill signed into law last month would be “in confusion” as it cut hundreds of millions of dollars from the administration’s plans. He also criticized the reductions in supplemental nutrition assistance programs, commonly known as food stamps, and the impact on ensuring children are not hungry in school.

Duncan noted that polls showed support for gun control measures, such as universal background checks and red scope laws.

He also criticized the Trump administration’s massive deportation immigration policy, saying “has become a lesson about how not to love neighbors.” Immigration policies should focus on protecting borders and deporting people who have committed felony crimes, but should create a way to create citizenship for other immigrants in the United States, he said.

Duncan’s party transfer comes after Georgia Republicans deported him from the party for suspected infidelity. The party’s resolution lists his endorsement of Biden in the 2024 presidential election, once he quits, his endorsement of former Vice President Kamala Harris and allegedly undermines and sabotages some efforts Republican candidateincluding current Gov. Burt Jones and 2022 Senate candidate Herschel Walker failed.

The former Republican also spoke at the Democratic National Convention in August to support Harris.

Duncan has been a fierce criticism from Trump and the Republican Party in recent years, especially since the president overturned the losses of the 2020 election and the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.

“The list of reasons why I’m now a Democrat continues to grow,” Duncan wrote. “Best of all, my decision puts me in the best position of loving my neighbors every day.”
