Texas Governor Greg Abbott said he was taking legal action to flee Democrats from dozens of Democrats who fled the state to stop plans to redefine the electoral borders.

He filed a lawsuit in the Texas Supreme Court in an attempt to fire Democratic lawmaker Gene Wu, who he called the “leader” of the conspiracy to “hijack” the state government.

While the document highlights WU, the departure of more than 50 Democrats would “constitute a abandonment of their offices, justifying their removal,” Abbott said in a statement.

The redrawn congressional map will create five more Republican tilted seats in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C., where Republicans have a slim majority.

Gerrymandering – redefining electoral boundaries to favor parties – has been the practice of Democrats and Republicans for years.

But usually, when the map is remarked to illustrate the population changes pointed out in the U.S. census, states re-divided every 10 years. Texas re-launched the congressional route in 2021 after the 2021 census, until the next population in five years, usually not changing those boundaries again.

“Texas House Democrats have waived their duties to Texans and there must be consequences,” the governor said in a statement.

At least two-thirds of the state legislature in Texas, a 150-member state, must be voted. The quorum became unrealized after Democratic lawmakers fled the state over the weekend.

“The court’s ruling will determine that only one-third of the legislature can determine the outcome of 100% of Texans,” the lawsuit said.

It believes: “Most people who have repeatedly failed to show up for work are fired. Civil servants must be followed by the same standards.”

The document requires the state’s Supreme Court to expel Wu’s Quo Warranto from his office almost using a writ.

Quo Warranto is a court lawsuit to resolve disputes about whether a particular person has the legal right to hold a public office.

The lawsuit comes the day after the Republican governor ordered the arrest of absent Democrats and return to the state legislature, so the vote on the redistrict can continue.

During Tuesday’s White House event, President Donald Trump said the FBI “may have to” help Texas authorities find and arrest lawmakers.

“I know they want them back, not just the Attorney General … the governor of Texas asked them back. So, a lot of people asked them back.”

Wu is the chairman of the Texas House Democracy Caucus, he told Texas Tribune The denial of the quorum is not “abandonment of my office”, but “the realization of the oath”.

He accused Abbott of seeking to “silence my objection by removing formally elected officials from positions” and argued that “my constitutional obligation is not to be a willing participant”.

The lawsuit calls for the Republican-led Texas Supreme Court to be before 17:00 local time on Thursday – a day before the House meeting is scheduled to resume.

All nine judges in the Texas Supreme Court are Republicans, and the Chief Justice was formerly Abbott’s general counsel.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is taking a separate lawsuit to demand that Democrats declare “vacancies,” and he said the legal process could be long and long.

Paxton told conservative podcast Benny Johnson that to remove lawmakers, separate lawsuits are required against each county in each county.

“We have to go through court proceedings and we have to come up with areas that may be unfriendly to Republicans,” Paxton said. “So, it’s a challenge because every region will be different.”

Democrats defended the decision to break the quorum.
