Watch: Trump’s business and political affiliation in Sweeney, Sydney

President Donald Trump praised actress Sydney Sweeney after social media strongly opposed the ads she showed.

“Registered Republican Sydney Sweeney has the hottest ads there,” he wrote in his Truth Social Post on Monday. “Go to find ’em Sydney!”

The Emmy-nominated actress starred in Euphoria and White Lotus, appearing in the American Eagle jeans commercial, where she said: “Genes are passed from parents to offspring, which usually determines features such as hair color, personality, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue.”

Some criticized the 27-year-old blue-eyed star’s words in the ads, which sparked debates about race and beauty standards.

American Eagle defended the ad, saying it was purely referring to the company’s jeans.

What is controversy?

American Eagle launched an advertising campaign with Sweeney on July 23.

The slogan “Sydney Sweeney’s Jeans are great” appears outside of TV, social media and storefronts.

Almost immediately, it received callbacks from some people on social media.

They criticized the ad’s genetic puns – including a line that says the blonde, blue-eyed actress “has jeans” because it echoes rhetoric related to eugenics, a belief that humans can be improved through selective reproduction.

Others, however, support Sweeney and describe the anger as an exaggeration.

It was later reported that Sweeney was a registered Republican in Florida. Not long after, Trump commented on the bank and expressed his support for the actress, who he called a “registered Republican.”

Meanwhile, Sweeney has not commented on strong opposition or confirmation of her political affiliation.

What do you say about the American Eagle?

The company said the sport is “all and always about jeans.”

“Her jeans. Her story,” said the American Hawk. “We will continue to celebrate how everyone is wearing AE jeans with confidence.”

The company’s stock has soared to as high as 20% since Trump began talking about advertising on Monday.

Allen Adamson, co-founder of marketing consulting firm Metaforce, said American Eagle is “pinned” in ads.

“This is more exponentially difficult than a few years ago,” he told the BBC. “Today’s marketing success is for consumers to share [advertisements] About society. ”

But they have to be “extraordinary” people, whether very good or unusually bad,” he said.

He added that social media Buzz American Eagle gets 10 to 20 times the value the company spends making it.

Is Sweeney a registered Republican?

Records show that Sweeney has been registered as a Republican in Florida since 2024.

But she did not give any comments on politics.

She made headlines in 2023, when videos and images of her mother’s birthday party were shared online and showed some attendees to Americans’ once again outstanding hats.

Sweeney responded that people should “stop making assumptions” and turn “innocent celebrations” into “absurd political statements.”

A few months later, she was asked in an interview: “Honestly, I don’t think anything I say can help the conversation,” she told GQ.

“It has turned into a wildfire and I can say nothing will bring it back on the right track,” she added.

What is Trump’s comment on this?

On Sunday, a reporter traveling with the U.S. president asked him about Sweeney.

“You’d be surprised at how many people are Republicans,” Trump said.

“That’s what I don’t know, but I’m glad you told me. If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ads are great.”

Even before Trump weighed, legends were the focus of conservative media, with some showing that ads were not only huge promotions for the American Eagle, but also for political parties.
