According to U.S. reports, American rapper Soulja Boy was arrested on suspicion of weapons charges in Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed to CBS News that the star, named Deandre Cortez Way, was arrested near Melrose in the city around local time.
Officials conducted a traffic stop and found one of the passengers in the vehicle allegedly possessed a firearm.
The rapper and producer is known primarily for his 2007 hit crank (Soulja Boy).
The 35-year-old built a follower on the back of the track, which was a popular dance trend at the time.
CBS – BBC Partner in the United States – Representatives of the rappers have been contacted for comment.
In addition, in April, Soulja Boy was ordered to pay $4.25 million to women accused of sexual assault and abuse.
The unnamed woman sued the star, saying he often raped and beat her, sometimes keeping her as a prisoner after she was hired as an assistant.
The way denies abuse of her and says their relationship was voluntary – but a jury in a civil trial found him responsible for sexual assault, assault and gender violence.
