Ghislaine Maxwell moves from Florida to Women’s Prison in Texas

Authorities confirmed that convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, has been transferred from a prison in Florida to a new minimum security facility in Texas.

The move comes after Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison for sex trafficking, urging the Supreme Court to overturn her beliefs while seeking pardon from President Donald Trump.

In early July, Maxwell held two meetings with the U.S. Deputy Attorney General, details of which have not been made public.

Maxwell has been the center of the Trump administration’s dispute over Epstein’s archives, and the reason for her transfer from the Florida prison is unclear.

Despite speculation that Trump may pardon Maxwell, the White House has previously said that “there is no leniency or discussion.”

The BBC has contacted the White House for comment on Maxwell’s move to Texas.

“We can confirm that Ghislaine Maxwell is detained at the Federal Prison Bureau of Brian in the Federal Prison Camp (FPC) in Brian, Texas,” the BOP said in a statement Friday.

Maxwell’s attorney David Oscar Markus confirmed the transfer but declined further comments.

In a statement, the late Virginia Giuffre’s family (one of the victims of Jeffrey Epstein) expressed “terror and disgust” about what they said was “preferential treatment” for Ghislaine Maxwell.

They further condemned the move because “the victims of Maxwell were not notified.”

“This is the victim of the failure of the justice system before our eyes,” the statement said. “The special treatment of child sex offenders dealing with pedophiles and crime charges has angered the American public.”

The FPC Bryant is located approximately 100 miles (160 km) in the capital of Austin, Texas.

Like other federal prison camps, FPC Bryant’s prisoners were placed in dormitories, with a lower employee-to-inmate ratio than other safer federal prisons. It houses prisoners who serve nonviolent crime and white-collar crimes for hours.

Also located in the facility among the approximately 650 female prisoners Elizabeth Holmes, CEO of Theranosconvicted of 11 years in prison for defrauding investors in a 2022 startup.

By comparison, Maxwell’s FCI Tallahassee facility has more than 800 prisoners of men and women. Both facilities are formally considered “low security” federal prisons.

While discipline is strictly in the facilities and all prisoners can work, they can also use foreign language and business classes, participate in sports, watch TV and participate in religious services.

According to a prison manual published online by authorities, video calls with family members are allowed, and prisoners are allowed on weekends and holidays.

Less than a week ago, Maxwell’s legal team said she was willing to testify before Congress knew her case, but only if she was granted strict legal protection.

However, the chair of the House Oversight Committee announced that on Friday, the scheduled August 11 sediment was postponed indefinitely.

Representative James Comer said that while the committee was “willing to continue the negotiations in good faith” it would not grant her congressional immunity or raise questions in advance, Maxwell’s attorneys demanded two conditions.

In early July, she held two meetings with U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who said he planned to see if she could provide additional information about other people who might be subject to Epstein as abusing girl.

After the meeting, he said he would reveal what he had learned in “the right time.” Maxwell’s lawyer said she made no promises or sought any exchange.

The pressure on President Trump to release more documents related to the Epstein case has been increasing after President Trump repeatedly pledged to do so during his campaign last year.

Instead, Trump accused political rivals of using the case to disperse their achievements since their tenure.
