Bachelor’s degree Alum Beca Martinez Revealed why she hasn’t shaved her legs for seven years.
On Tuesday, July 8 Instagram Post, Martinez, 30, shared a screenshot of a message she received recently, which read: “Your face does not have hairy legs.”
The message continues: “The gray must be figured out.” Grayston Leonardshe shared with her three children, including her 6-year-old daughter Ruth and 5-year-old Franklin and Ernesto.
Martinez answered in a long slide that it was her body, her choice.
“I started sneaking my mom’s razor in third grade. I remember praying to God that he took all his hair away from his neck,” Martinez wrote. “Family, friends, even teachers and coaches would tease my black leg stubble gently, which seemed harmless, but it was wrong to continue strengthening my body’s hair.”
Martinez continued: “When I was pregnant with my first child, I stopped shaving. I wanted my daughter (and my future son) to see the hair on women. Not shameless. I want to prove that the body is not a male.
“It’s not just my child,” she explained. “It’s for me. I want to consciously get through the disgust in my natural body. I still don’t like my body. In some cases, I feel people’s gaze and embarrassment. But, that feeling is much less powerful to me than before.”
She concluded: “When Ruth pointed out and said, ‘My mother, my legs look like your legs,’ without an ounce of shame, it’s all worth it.”
