The jury’s selection is scheduled to take place Tuesday in Fort Pierce, Florida, for Ryan Routh’s federal trial and is charged with assassination of former President Donald Trump at his West Palm Beach Golf Club in September 2024.
Three groups of 60 potential jurors are participating in the jury selection process, in which prosecutors and Routh represent themselves, asking jurors to ask a series of questions to determine whether they can attend the trial fairly. The jury selection process began on Monday and is expected to end on Wednesday.

The first group of 60 appeared on Monday at the Prosecutor and Rolls. His questions to potential jurors touched on the war in Gaza, the idea of the U.S. acquisition of Greenland (a proposal made by the president) and how they would respond if they saw a turtle while driving.
Trump-appointed U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed Routh’s question as “political allegations” and said they did not need jury selection.
“There is no aspect to any of the questions on your list. Sir, they are not at the base and have nothing to do with the choice of the jury,” Cannon said.

Prosecutors claimed that a 59-year-old construction worker, Routh, tried to kill Trump for weeks and stayed in the bush on September 15, 2024, when a Secret Service agent found him pointing at a rifle at Trump while the then-presidential candidate played golf at his West Palm Beach Country Club. Rolls aimed his rifle at the agent, but gave up his weapon and the scene Secret Service agent opens fire.

Rolls faces federal charges Attempt to assassinate A major presidential candidate, as well as attacks on federal officers and various guns. Those charges would be subject to potential life sentences if the jury found him guilty. Meanwhile, Routh insists that he is innocent and pleads not guilty to all federal charges except for state terrorism and attempted murder.
The trial’s opening remarks are expected to begin Thursday, with prosecutors expected to file a lawsuit immediately after that. The court has allocated four weeks for Routh’s trial and is expected to end no later than October 3.
