Rubio says both Russia and Ukraine must make concessions for peace deals | Trump administration

In a series of interviews on Sunday, the U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubiosaid “both sides must make concessions” in order to make a peaceful resolution on the war that broke out in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

“You can’t reach a peace agreement unless both sides make concessions,” the top diplomat of the Trump administration said on Sunday this week. “This is true in almost any negotiation. If not, it’s just called surrender. Neither side surrenders. Both sides have to make concessions.”

Rubio said Russian president’s recent talks in Alaska Vladimir Putin And his America Donald Trump To end the war, “progress has been made in the sense that we have identified potential areas of agreement, but there are still some big differences”.

“We still have a long way to go,” Rubio added. “We are not on the cliff of a peace agreement. We are not on the edge of one person. But I do think progress is progress, and achievement in one direction.”

He refuses to enter specific areas of agreement or disagreement, or outlines what Trump calls “serious consequences” Russia If it invades Ukraine continued.

“Ultimately, if there is no peace agreement, if this war is not over, the president is clear – there will be consequences,” Rubio said. “But we are working to avoid this. The way we try to avoid these consequences is to have better consequences, namely peace, the end of hostilities.”

He said the war had been “lasting for three and a half years.”

“You have two very entrenched sides and we’re going to have to keep working and cut it down,” Rubio said.

Additionally, in NBC’s conference media, Rubio said the ceasefire was “not on the table”, although he added: “The best way to end the conflict is agreed through a comprehensive peace agreement.”

He said the U.S. advocates for a ceasefire, but “unfortunately, Russians have not agreed to this as of now.

“But the ideal here is that our goal here is not a ceasefire,” he said. “Our ultimate goal is to end.”

Nevertheless, Rubio said he suspected that his series of Western sanctions on Russia would force Moscow to agree to any deal.

He also denies that, as critics have said, Trump has only given the invader Putin in the conflict, an unnecessary place on the world stage.

“Putin is already on the world stage,” Rubio said in ABC News. “This guy is Ukraine.

“It doesn’t mean he’s right about the war. It doesn’t mean he’s right about the war. You won’t end the war between Russia and Ukraine without dealing with Putin. It’s just common sense. So people can say everything they want.”

In NBC’s conference media, Sen. Chris Murphy, a Democratic Connecticut, retorted Sunday that Trump-Putin “the meeting was a disaster.”

“It’s an embarrassment for the United States,” Murphy said. “It’s a failure. Putin got everything he wanted.”

Murphy said Trump gave Putin the “that photo” he wanted and “avoided his war crimes before the world.

“War criminals are not usually invited to the United States of America,” Murphy said.

Second, he said Putin was not forced to give up anything.

“President Trump said he wanted a ceasefire – it seems the ceasefire wasn’t even seriously discussed,” Murphy added. “Then, third, there’s no consequence.

“Trump said, ‘If I don’t have a ceasefire, Putin will pay the price.” Then he left that meeting and said, “I don’t have a ceasefire.”
