American cross-runner sues “parabe” for evacuation from college track and field team | NCAA

Long-distance runner Evie Parts sued NCAA Swarthmore College and its sports department members said they illegally removed her from the track and field team because she was a transgender person.

Parts lawsuit says NCAA’s ban on transgender athletes in the women’s sports has no legal reason because it is not a government organization and therefore against Pennsylvania law or Title IX Federal Regulations.

On February 6, the day she was evacuated from the team, the largest governing body of the U.S. university sports, the day when NCAA, was evacuated on February 6. New policies on trans athletes have been released.

Swarthmore men’s and women’s track and field coach Peter Carroll, athletic director Brad Koch, and athletic officials Christina Epps-Chiazor and Valerie Gomez were also appointed in the lawsuit. Susie Cirilli, a lawyer representing the part, added: “We support the allegations in the complaint.

Swarthmore issued a statement that “has a great deal on our trans community members.”

“We recognize that this is a particularly difficult and painful time for members of the trans community, including student-athletes,” the school said. “We strive to support the Evie parts during a rapidly growing coaching period while balancing the ability of other female track and field members to participate in NCAA events. We will no longer comment in view of the pending lawsuit.”

NCAA opted not to comment.

The NCAA has changed its participation policy for trans athletes to limit competition in women’s sports to athletes assigned to women at birth. The change came the day after Donald Trump signed an executive order to ban trans athletes from participating in girls and women’s sports.

The Pennsylvania Senate approved a bill on May 6 with a profit margin of 32-18 that prohibits trans athletes from participating in college and K-12 levels of women and women’s sports. The democratically controlled House of Representatives in the state is not expected to vote on the bill.

Parts joined the Swarthmore track and field team in fall 2020 and has since stood out for the next four winters and springs. She returned to the team in 2023 for indoor and outdoor track and field seasons as well as cross-country competitions.

The lawsuit noted that when the NCAA issued the ban, Epps-Chiazor and Gomez told the parts that she could compete with a team of men or anonymous athletes. The complaint says she would only receive medical treatment if she joined the men’s team.

According to the lawsuit, Carol and his staff were not allowed to coach parts, she was unable to travel with the team, and therefore was not allowed to accept daily or food receipts, and therefore had to pay for the meeting. Parts cannot be worn with Swarthmore uniforms.

Swarthmore “fully recovered” parts on April 11, and she competed on the women’s team until she graduated in May, the lawsuit said.

In July, a transgender woman sued Princeton University, claiming she was illegally removed from her post shortly after a track and field competition hosted by the school in May, due to her gender identity.
