White House Reviews Smithsonian Museum Before U.S. 250th Birthday

Trump comments after the White House A letter to the Smithsonian Tuesday’s unveiling plans to review its museums and exhibitions in preparation for the 250th birthday of the United States in 2026.

“We want museums to treat our country fairly,” Trump told reporters on Thursday. “We want their museums to talk about our country’s history in a fair way, not awaken in a racist way, which is what many of them are doing, not all of them, but many of them are doing.”

“Our museums have an obligation to represent what has happened in our country over the years. Good and bad,” Trump said. “But what has happened in an accurate way over the years.”

The Smithsonian told Fox News that it is reviewing the letter from the Trump administration and will move forward with the White House, Congress and its board of directors.

“The Smithsonian’s work is based on a profound commitment to academic excellence, rigorous research and accuracy, factual presentation of history,” the Smithsonian said in a statement.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller weighed the matter earlier Thursday, saying left-wing radicals “obscenely defiled” the museum.

“The Smithsonians should be a global symbol of American power, culture and reputation.” Miller posted to X Thursday. “A place where families and children celebrate American history and greatness. Instead, these exhibitions are clearly taken over by left-wing activists who use the Smithsonians as a platform to endlessly slam the United States and rewrite/delete our grand stories.

“These activists obscenely defamated this beloved institution,” Miller added. “The Trump administration will proudly, diligently restore the patriotic glory of America and ensure that the Smithsonians are a place to inspire love and dedication to this country, especially among our youngest citizens.”

The first letter of the White House letter to Smithsonian on Tuesday said the review would evaluate social media, exhibition texts and educational materials. This will be to “evaluate tone, historical framework and consistency with American ideals,” the letter said.

“This initiative is intended to ensure consistency with the President’s directive to celebrate American exceptionalism, to eliminate divisions or partisan narratives, and to restore confidence in our shared cultural institutions,” the letter said.

The review will highlight the following museums: the National Museum of History, the National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the National Museum of American Indians, the National Museum of Air and Space, the Smithsonian American Art Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery, and the Helshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.

Trump has taken previous steps to change what is displayed in the Smithsonian Museum and signed an executive order in March that puts the vice president on the vice president JD Vance Responsible for overseeing the removal of plans or exhibitions that “depreciate American values, divide Americans based on race, or promote programs or ideologies that are inconsistent with federal laws and policies.” ”

Artist Amy Sherald canceled an exhibition scheduled to arrive in Smithsonian in September, which includes a portrait of the trans Statue of Liberty at the National Portrait Gallery, as Vance claims the exhibition features awakening and split content, Fox News Digital First Report.
