President Donald Trump announced this year’s Kennedy Center honors will receive action star Sylvester Stallone, stage actor Michael Crawford, singers George Strait and Gloria Gaynor and rock band KISS.
With tradition, he will also host the show later this year to celebrate one of the country’s highest recognition of artists.
After returning to office, Trump fired the president and most of the board of directors of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and played the role of its chairman, a move that many criticized as a political intervention in the arts.
He said Wednesday he plans to completely renovate the center, which has received federal funding for its facilities.
Trump said he was “98% of the honorees this year” and added that “I’m very involved.”
During Wednesday’s event, Trump said two women in evening gowns dragged fabric to the portrait, revealing every noble artist, who he said had rejected potential honorary people of the “Wauxter”.
Trump also criticized the Oscars and other artistic recognition for being “wake up.” He often aims at “suffocation” (he has been too Orthodox in his ideas about liberalism and progress since he returned to the office.
He admitted that some selected artists also rejected the award, which was dissatisfaction with his leading 54-year-old center.
Stallone, who was last seen in the movie Alaram this winter, was a powerful Trump supporter and threatened him as “Second George Washington.”
“No one in the world can achieve his achievement, so I’m in awe,” Storon said of the president’s election victory in November.
Meanwhile, Kiss’s lead singer Gene Simmons has been critical of Trump in the past.
“I don’t think he is a Republican or a Democrat,” Simmons said of Trump in 2022.
Trump pledged Wednesday to serve as chairman to make the Kennedy Center the “Crown Jewelry” for the 2026 U.S. 250th Anniversary Celebration. He spoke in detail about repairing seats and updating the buildings overlooking the Potomac River.
“We cannot currently support external forces being forced to betray its institution as a natural cultural center to promote free expression of the arts,” he said in a statement after Trump removed board members and staff.
As the United States gets closer to its 250th birthday, Trump has shown growing interest in many aspects of his capital, including strengthening his law enforcement to address the emergency he described.
His administration announced Tuesday it would review current and planned exhibitions of the Smithsonian agency, whose museum is the National Mall. The review will study website, social media and museum texts “evaluate intonation, historical framework and consistency with American ideals.”
The Smithsonians will have 120 days to resolve issues found in the review.
