Texas Democrats flee the state to stop redistributive votes for Republicans

Dozens Texas Democrats Fleeing the state and preventing a redistricted vote could benefit Republicans, marking a huge effort toward legislative process.

According to the local KVUE in Austin, lawmakers flew to Chicago and they plan to hold a press conference with Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker later Sunday.

At least 100 members of the Texas home must be conducted on 150 members. At least 51 Democratic members are leaving the state, House Democratic Caucus spokesman Josh Rush Nisenson told the Associated Press.

Republicans currently own 25 of the state’s 38 seats. They are supporting the president’s efforts to re-division Donald Trump.

A redistricting proposal by Texas House Republicans last week could purify five new Republican U.S. House seats in the 2026 midterm elections.

House Democratic caucus chair Gene Wu defended the Democratic Party’s final efforts in a statement Sunday.

“This is not a decision we make easily, but a decision we make with absolute moral clarity,” Wu said.

But leaving the country could cost Democrats fines, including fines, and Attorney General Ken Paxton previously threatened to arrest them for civil assault.

“[T]Hey, wherever they go, they should be found and arrested. ” said the Attorney General.

While the proposal may still change, its current design will traditionally tilt democratic cities like Dallas and Houston to support Republicans.

DNC Chairman Ken Martin expressed support to Texas Democrats on Sunday, writing “[f]Or too long, Donald Trump and Republicans tried to get rid of the manipulation system, violated the rules, and orchestrated the maintenance of power. ”

“The DNC is proud to support these legislators to stand up and show real leadership,” he said. “We will fight alongside them to stop this anti-democratic attack. And, after this battle, we will go all out, the Republican House majority.”

The speaker of the Texas House Dustin Burrows warned Democrats on Sunday.

“The Texas House will be called tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. If there is no quorum, borrow some of my Democratic colleagues’ recent conversation points, all options will be on the table,” he wrote on X.
