Getty ImagesU.S. President Donald Trump said he had ordered two nuclear submarines to “position in proper areas” in response to “highly provocative” comments from former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
Trump said he took action: “Just in case these stupid and inflammatory statements are more than that. Words are very important and often lead to unexpected consequences, and I hope this is not one of those situations”.
He did not say where the two submarines that were consistent with the U.S. military agreement were deployed.
Medvedev recently threatened to agree to Trump’s final pass on Moscow, agreeing to a ceasefire in Ukraine, or facing tough sanctions.
Russia and the United States have the most nuclear weapons in the world, and both countries have a nuclear submarine.
“Dmitry Medvedev, now vice-chairman of the Russian Federation Security Council, is now the vice-chairman of the Russian Federation, and I order the positioning of two nuclear submarines in appropriate areas,” Trump wrote in a post on the Truth Society on Friday.
The U.S. president has not said that he refers to submarines with nuclear power or nuclear weapons in his posts on the Truth Society.
Trump and Medvedev recently participated in a series of mutual attacks on each other on social media.

Before Monday, Trump set a deadline of “10 or 12”. In early July, if Putin did not end the war within 50 days, he threatened Russia’s serious tariffs with tax rates on its oil and other exports.
ReutersMedvedev – as president of Russia from 2008 to 2012 – accused Trump of having a “last game with Russia” with Russia earlier this week.
“Every new final atum is a threat and a step towards war,” Medvedev said in his post on X.
He also described Trump’s last atum as “dramatic” in early July, saying “Russia doesn’t care.”
Medvedev wrote in a telegram on Thursday warning of the “dead hands” threat – some military analysts are understood as codenames involving Russia’s retaliatory nuclear strike control system.
Friday is not the first time Trump responded to Medvedev’s comments. On Thursday, he described Medvedev as “a former president of Russia who believes he remains president.”
Trump also warned Medvedev to “see his words” and added that “he entered very dangerous territory!”
Medvedev, who supported the full Russian invasion of Ukraine, was established in 2022 and is a straightforward critic of the West.
