Senator John Fetterman has checked himself in the hospital for treatment for clinical depression, his office said Thursday.
“Last night, Senator John Fetterman checked Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for treatment for clinical depression,” a statement from the Democratic Office of Pennsylvania said. “Although John experienced depression throughout his life, it has only become severe in recent weeks.”
Fetterman was evaluated by congressional doctors on Monday, who recommended inpatient care at Walter Reed Medical Center, according to the statement.
“John agreed that he is volunteering for treatment,” his office said. “After examining John, Walter Reed’s doctor told us that John was getting the care he needed and would be back on himself soon.”
Fetterman’s wife, Gisele Barreto Fetterman, posted the statement on Twitter, adding: “After his past year’s experience, no one wants to talk about his health, not John. I’m proud of him seeking help and getting the care he needs.”
