Federal judge ordered anti-Israel activist Mahmoud Khalil to be released on bail, while his migrant The civil case was conducted through the court on the grounds that it was the “special circumstances” of his case.
Biden-appointed judge Michael Farbiarz assessed Khalil was not a danger or danger to the community at a New Jersey hearing, so his detention was “very unusual.”
Khalil’s lawyer said in a letter to the court that his imprisonment at the immigration detention center in Jena, Louisiana was a “extremely rare” decision by the government and constituted unconstitutional retaliation.
Legal permanent resident Khalil was arrested outside his apartment at Columbia University in March and immediately filed a habeas lawsuit, challenging his detention. He has asked the court to be released on bail or transferred to an immigration facility in New Jersey, where he will be closer to his family and the legal team.

An immigration judge believes Khalil was demolished according to a secretary of state memorandum Marco Rubio That is, Khalil’s actions on campus are inconsistent with the interests of American foreign policy.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) attorneys argued to the judge that the federal court had no right to release Khalil from detention because a second claim on his green card documents was in front of the immigration judge.
“Khalil is still in custody because he is currently charged with accused of fraud or intentionally misrepresenting the material facts of his application for adjustment status,” the attorney wrote in court documents this week.
