Karen Read, an American woman who was accused of running for her police boyfriend and was killed in a snow bank, has captured real crime fans nationwide.
The jury also found 44-year-old Read, guilty of vehicle homicide while drunk and left the collision scene in January 2022. But she was convicted of alcohol influence (OUI).
Her July 2024 trial was a trial that was faced with the death of Boston policeman John O’Keefe, and the jury was unable to make a verdict.
She once again pleaded not guilty during the retrial, and her lawyer argued that she was framed for Mr. O’Keeffe’s death.

Prosecutors and MS Read’s attorneys agreed to a one-year probation order for the cost of the poisoning. This means she will avoid going to jail.
With the verdict read out, loud cheers could be heard from outside the Massachusetts courthouse, and crowds gathered, many wearing pink to show support for MS Read. She hugged the defense attorney and cried.
Ms. Red cheered as she emerged from the building to thank her supporters. The crowd chanted “Free Karen Reading” and made the “I Love You” logo in American Sign Language. Some people wave our flags and sing God bless America.
“No one is more fighting for justice than I do for John O’Keefe,” she said in a brief statement.
Ms. Read’s trial created a strong public interest, producing Hulu TV shows, several podcasts and upcoming Netflix documentaries.
Her father, William Read, thanked “all the content providers who helped spread the word.”
The O’Keeffe’s still haven’t commented.
But several witnesses in the case said Wednesday that the result was a “devastating miscarriage of justice.”
Their statement said they “laughed that the prosecution was a conspiracy theory that was infected by lies and conspiracy theory by Karen Read, her defense team, and some in the media.”

Blogger Aidan “Turtleboy” Kearney told NBC10 local news that the verdict was a “surreal emotional experience.”
“I finally heard these words: ‘Innocence’, I have been dreaming about this… It’s a happy ending.”
Kearney himself faces several charges of witness intimidation, which he denied.
His writings often questioned investigations into Mr. O’Keeffe’s death, and he often faced witnesses publicly.
Ms. Read has worked as an adjunct professor at Bentley University and an equity analyst at Fidelity Investment.
Prosecutors believe she and Mr. O’Keeffe had been together for about two years before their death in 2022, but their relationship became turbulent.

In closing the debate, state prosecutor Hank Brennan told the court that MS Read was drunk driving because their staggering relationship was angered by her return to O’Keefe at the home of a fellow Boston-area compatriot.
He claimed she let him die during the snowstorm. Mr. O’Keeffe died at the age of 46 and worked for the Boston Police Department for 16 years.
Ms Read’s lawyer believes O’Keefe was beaten at home, bitten by a dog and fell into the snow. They argued that Ms. Red was the victim of the carefully planned plot of the local police to frame her.
The jury held four days of deliberation ahead of Wednesday afternoon’s verdict.
Court documents show that the names of jury members will not be published.
