This is what happened this week:
Fed visit
Trump visited Federal Reserve Headquarters Thursday as he stepped up his dig at Fed Chairman Jerome Powell.
Trump accompanied other administration officials on a tour of the headquarters after a $2.5 billion renovation of the building. The massive project attracted lawmakers and members of the Trump administration, including the president, who believed that a huge renovation could constitute a crime that could be a fire.
“I think he’s terrible…I don’t see him as someone who needs a palace to live in. But one thing I never guessed is that he’s going to spend $200 million to build a little delay in the Fed,” Trump said.

President Donald Trump spoke with Fed Chairman Jerome Powell during his visit to the Fed in Washington on July 24, 2025.
The pair briefly grabbed the cost of renovation on Thursday, but Trump later told reporters that the two had a “good meeting” and were not “tightened.” Trump also shut down speculation that he might oust Powell, claiming that such a move is unnecessary.
The Federal Reserve, the U.S. central bank oversees U.S. monetary policy and regulates financial institutions.
Trump has historically opposed Powell, calling him names like “Numskull” and “too late.” Similarly, Trump is angry that Powell said he ignored the demand for lowering interest rates.
“Well, I hope he lowers interest rates, but beyond that, what can I tell you?” Trump said Thursday.
Cancel the package signature
Trump signed his roughly $9 billion withdrawal plan Thursday to capture the already approved federal funds for foreign aid and public broadcasting.
The cancellation measures revoked nearly $8 billion in funding and have approved the approval of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which was previously an independent agency that provided assistance to poor countries and provided development assistance.
The Rescisions package also pulled more than $1 billion from the Company (CPB) Company (CPB), which provides federal funding for NPR and PBS.
