Its parent company said the hackers stole personal information from most insurance companies’ 1.4 million customers in North America.

“On July 16, 2025, a maliciously threatened actor obtained a third-party, cloud-based CRM system used by Allianz Life Insurance Company (Alianz Life),” Allianz said in a statement to the BBC.

The German parent company added that the hackers “can use social engineering technology to obtain personal identity data related to most Allianz clients, financial professionals, financial professionals and select Allianz life employees”.

According to the company, the data breach is only related to Allianz’s life.

The insurance giant disclosed a data breach in its legal filing with the attorney general in Maine.

It does not specify how many people are affected.

In a statement, the insurer said it had taken “immediate action” to control the violation and notified the FBI.

It said, “There is no evidence, including our policy management system, including Allianz Life Network or other corporate systems.”

Allianz, who has more than 125 million customers worldwide, added that he is in the process of contacting and assisting with individuals affected by the data breach.

Social engineering cyber attacks are when hackers are stressing or tricking users into providing sensitive information, such as pretending to be trustworthy companies or individuals.
