Malcolm-Jamal Warner died in Theodore Huxtable on the Cosby Show.
Warner is 54 years old while on holiday in Costa Rica on Sunday, US media reported.
The judicial investigation agency in Costa Rica confirmed the death of BBC US partner CBS News.
Local authorities say Warner appears to have been dragged to sea while local authorities are swimming around Playa Grande in a small town in Lilimon Province.
Warner played the son of Bill Cosby in the American sitcom from 1984 to 1992.
“The victim was assisted by people on the beach. However, Costa Rica Red Cross staff declared he had no vital signs,” authorities said.
