Bipartisan bill will grant legal status to certain illegal immigrant workers

R-FLA. Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar and D-Texas’ Veronica Escobar proposed legislation Tuesday to reform The US immigration systemincluding providing legal status for certain illegal immigrants to continue working in the country in President Donald Trump’s massive deportation policy.

By 2021, the Dignity Act will allow illegal immigration in the United States who have been in the United States to apply for up to seven years of legal status and obtain work authorization. Immigrants will compensate for compensation and conduct regular inspections with the Department of Homeland Security and may renew their legal status based on good conduct and compensation.

The bill would provide a pathway for permanent residence, but legal status provided to immigrants would not allow any pathway for federal benefits or U.S. citizenship.

“The Dignity Act 2025 is a revolutionary bill that provides solutions to our immigration crisis: Securing the borders, stopping illegal immigration, and providing opportunities for long-term immigrants to stay here and work,” Sarah Salal said in a statement.. “No amnesty. No handout. No citizenship. Just accountability and a path to stability for our economy and the future.”

The bill will be fully funded through immigration compensation and filing fees, meaning it will not rely on any taxpayer’s money.

The measure will also aim to end capture and release measures, and further strengthen security at the southern border, and require employers across the country to use electronic verification, i.e., government systems to check the legal status of workers.

It will also expand training, apprenticeship and education for American workers.

“I have witnessed first-hand the destructive consequences of our broken immigration system and as a member of Congress I take the obligation to come up with a solution seriously. Realistic, common sense compromises are achievable, given the urgency of this moment. I think the act of dignity in 2025 is a crucial step and an important first step to this broken system,” he said. Escobar says.

“Immigration, especially those in the United States for decades, forms a key component of our community and a key component of the U.S. workforce and economy,” she continued. “The vast majority of immigrants are hardworking, law-abiding residents; and, most Americans recognize that it is in the best interest of our nation to find bipartisan reforms. We can create legislation that incorporates humanity and security at the same time, and the Dignity Act of 2025 tries to drive damaged systems to restore the dignity of people who are in line with dignity.

Congress has worked on comprehensive immigration reform in the past, but Salazar and Escobar are optimistic that their bills may lead to A large amount of support from both parties.

Another bipartisan group of 20 other House members has signed the bill.

The administration has begun working to provide some protection for certain immigrant workers, and Trump said last month that he is considering ways for some immigrant workers to stay in the United States

All we have to do is we’re going to do something for the farmers, we can hold the farmers accountable. Farmers don’t know.
