Governor Greg Abbott calls for special meeting to improve Texas flood warning system

Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Kristi Noem During Saturday’s press conference, the flood notice failed, claiming that the government is working to update the “neglected” and “ancient” systems of the National Weather Service and NOAA.

Noem vowed to upgrade meteorological service technology, which she said was “neglected for too long” to ensure families “as many advanced notices as possible.”

She added that the reform is underway, although she has not provided a timeline.

Skeptics argue that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) labor has been reduced due to reduced spending in the Ministry of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Democrats have previously claimed that more than 880 NOAA workers have been fired, although a spokesperson will not confirm specific numbers.
