Elsewhere in the book, Heming Willis recalled that before he received his FTD diagnosis, there was no Willis traveling to Mexico. Instead, she traveled with 11-year-old Mabel and young daughter Evelyn and some close family and friends. Heming Willis left a nursing team after a friend advised her not to break her husband’s routine. She admitted it was a “suppression” decision, but ultimately felt that it was the best for him.

The family revealed that Willis was diagnosed with FTD with language and behavioral changes in February 2023. According to the Association for Frontotemporal Lobe Degeneration, the typical lifespan of patients with FTD is 7 to 13 years.

Heming Willis recorded her trip with her daughter via Instagram, capturing photos from their serene hikes and birthday celebrations.
