The exchange comes a day after more than 1,000 current and former HHS employees called on Kennedy to resign.

At the hearingWyden accused Kennedy of elevating conspiracy theories and misconduct of federal health agencies, saying his tenure has been benefited by “chaos”, “corruption” and the benefits of himself and President Donald Trump, and the rising health costs for families.

He also accused Kennedy of “removing the vaccine from Americans” and threatening doctors who deviated from guidelines.

Kennedy touted the department’s work, calling it “the busiest and most active administration in HHS history.”

He said that within six months, HHS solved problems ranging from food and infant formula contamination to drinking water safety, drug prices, e-cigarettes, heroin at gas stations and delays in advance.

“We are ending functional studies, children’s dismemberment and reducing the benefits of animal testing,” Kennedy said. “We are talking about cell phone use in schools, excessive screening time for young people, lack of nutrition education in our medical schools, sickle cell anemia, hepatitis, East Palestinian chemical oil spills, and many others. At the FDA, we are now stepping up to approve drugs this year, more than at any time in history.”
