Players in the U.S. lottery will receive a chance on Monday with a high prize of more than $1 billion.
No one has been able to match all six numbers in Powerball since May 31, which allowed the jackpot to expand to $1.1 billion, which would be the fifth largest prize in the game’s history. Payments will be distributed over 30 years, otherwise the winner can again choose an estimated $498.4 million in immediate payment before tax.
The odds of matching all six numbers are astronomical: one in one is 292.2 million. Lightning is much more likely to hit. However, with so many people investing money, there is a chance to change their lives and someone will eventually win.
Powerball is priced at $2 per ticket and is broadcast in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are held every week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturday nights.
