The frustrated Stefanos Tsitsipas beat the match point and made an exception to the opponent’s tactics in the second round against Daniel Altmaier on Thursday.
The 7-6 (5), 1-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 loss means the first 3 tsitsipas will end this season without going into the third round of the Grand Slam for the first time since 2017.
Altmaier deployed a legal but rarely used underarm several times during the fourth inning rally, and Tsitsipas let the German know he had no approval as the couple shook hands at the end of the game that lasted four hours and 26 minutes.
“Next time, I don’t know why I’m going to hit you, okay?
When the German World 56 raised his hand and refused to participate in the discussion, the crowd booed.
Former finalist Tsitsipas, both Australian and French, parted ways with his coach Goran Ivanisevic and brought his father Apostolos back last month in an attempt to stop his game’s worrying decline.
The 27-year-old hasn’t won back-to-back games since Barcelona opened in April and is ranked 28th in the world rankings.
