Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested Kilmar Abreg Garcia shortly after he arrived at the agency’s on-site office in Baltimore, Maryland on Monday morning.

Abrego-Garcia’s legal battle has dominated U.S. headlines for months as he was deported from the country Trump administration Salvador that violated 2019 court orders. He faces a second deportation, this time in Uganda.

Not long before arriving Monday morning, immigration advocates, faith leaders and other community members held a vigil outside the wild office at sunrise, organized by two immigration advocacy groups.

The Trump administration sent him back to the United States a few months after sending him to El Salvador under a federal judge and Supreme Court order.

He was arrested when he returned to the United States for a 2022 traffic stop in Tennessee. He stayed in federal custody until Friday, when he was released from U.S. custody and ordered to return to Maryland, where the judge said he could continue electronic surveillance and ICE supervision while awaiting trial.

ICE officials informed Abrego-Garcia’s lawyers shortly after their release on Friday that they planned to deport him to Uganda, an East African country that reached a deal with the United States last week to accept immigrants deported by the Trump administration.

The notice issued by the Office of ICE’s Chief Legal Counsel said the notice was intended to “as a notice, DHS may delete your client, Kilmar Armando Abrego-Garcia, no earlier than 72 hours from now (not on weekends).

Trump’s border Tsar Tom Tom Homan told Fox News in an interview Sunday night that Abrego-Garcia was “absolutely” deported from the United States and said Uganda was the third country to be removed.

“We made a deal with them. It was definitely on the table,” Homan said in an interview on Sunday night’s “Big Weekend Show.”

Homan reiterated: “He will definitely be deported.”

For now, he said, Abrego-Garcia “can enjoy his time with his family. For those who say we won’t separate their families, his family can go with him because he’s leaving.”
