Mayor Brandon Johnson explodes the president Donald Trump Regarding what he called the “threat”, the National Guard was deployed in Chicago to combat crime.
Johnson’s comment comes after the president said on Friday that Chicago will be the next city and that Chicago will be the next city after the mission to reduce crime in Washington.
“After doing this, we’ll go to another location and we’ll make it safe,” Trump said in the Oval Office. “We’ll make our country very safe. … Chicago is a mess.”
Johnson issued a statement noting that the city has not received any formal communications about additional federal law enforcement or military deployment to Chicago, adding that he felt “serious concerns” about the impact of any “illegal deployment.”

Johnson said the Trump administration’s efforts were “uncoordinated, inaction and unclear” and appeared to be seizures from the president, who earlier in the day called him “very incompetent.”
He added that the city reduced homicides by 30%, robberies by 35%, and shootings nearly 40% last year, suggesting federal operations will worsen trust.
“Illegal deployment of the National Guard to Chicago has the potential to inspire tensions between residents and law enforcement when we know that trust between police and residents is the basis for building safer communities,” Johnson wrote. “Illegal deployment will be unsustainable and has the potential to undermine the historical progress we have made.”

However, 2023 crime data show other Illinois cities, including Chicago HeightsDanville, Peoria, Rockford and Harvey have significantly higher violent crime rates than Chicago.
“The National Guard will not alleviate the housing crisis,” Johnson wrote. “This will not put food in the stomach of a quarter of Chicago’s hungry children every night. The National Guard will not provide full funding to our public schools, nor will it provide mental health care or abuse drugs for Chicagoans in need.
“The National Guard cannot replace specialized local law enforcement and community violence bondagers who know and serve our communities every day.
