Navy cuts civilian PAO positions to improve operational efficiency

The memorandum states: “The Admiralty must ensure that public affairs resources are aligned with combat readiness, standards and discipline, and rapid decision-making.”

From now on, any civilian public affairs recruitment must be approved by the Naval Information Director (Chinfo) or the Marine Corps Communications Bureau (CD). Media and message support contracts will also be aggregated into a system, so the commands of the entire fleet can use the same process.

The memorandum directs: “The billets for civilian public affairs in headquarters, employee support and non-mobile environments should be reduced or eliminated.”
