Democrats have slammed Trump for federalization of the city’s police department, claiming crime data shows violence is declining.

Fox News reported Tuesday that in recent months, the Metropolitan Police Department’s crime data is currently under investigation by the Justice Department to respond to the unit’s manipulation of data to generate a more favorable crime trend.

Trump advocated the crackdown on crime at a press conference on August 11, when he first announced that he would take the federal government to federal police departments under Section 740 of the District of Columbia Family Rule Act, which allows the president to undertake emergency control of the capital police force within 30 days.
