New York City Mayor candidate Zohran Mamdani’s office said Thursday that the New York City Police Department (NYPD) hate crime department is investigating the threat of a car bomb targeting him despite not owning a car.
“After multiple death threats and racist messages, Mandani’s office is participating in an ongoing investigation by the New York Police Department’s Hate Crime Task Force,” a statement from the Mayor Candidate Office said. “While Zohran does not own a car, it seems that the violence and specific language of the repeated callers are shocking, and we are taking all precautions.”
“Although this is a pathetic reality, it is not surprising that it is intended to humanize and hate after millions of dollars spent on dehumanized, Islamic feared rhetoric,” the statement continued. “Violence and racism should have no place in our politics. Zoran remains focused on providing a safe and affordable New York.”
Mamdani, who competes for becoming New York City’s first Muslim mayor, criticized by rivals including former New York State Government Andrew Cuomo Middle East PoliticsA boiling point this week amid a strike between Israel and Iran.

In a recent mayoral debate, Mandani said: “Israel has the right to survive.”
But Mandani refused to agree that Israel has the right to exist as a “Jewish state”, but rather as a state with equal rights.

The New York Police Department told Fox News that police received a caller report at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, saying they received four voicemails from an unknown person on various dates, threatening anti-Muslim statements. Police did not say whether the person who reported the threat was Mamdani.
Nevertheless, the department said the matter has not been arrested and an investigation is still underway.
Despite the different political views, Cuomo condemns Threat to his political opponents.

“This is an atrocious threat of political violence against Mr. Mamdani. It is unacceptable —I strongly condemn these threats and any others like them,” Cuomo said on X. “This has no place in our politics or our society. Thankfully, no one was harmed. This is a pivotal time in this country, and we need to tone down the rhetoric and focus on the people’s agenda.”
Another Democratic mayor candidate, New York City auditor General Brad Lander, also condemned the threat to Mandani.
“The terrible threat of opposing Islamic terrorist violence [Zohran Mamdani] “I am dangerous and morally reprehensible. I condemn this behavior to the greatest extent. Hate has no status in New York City,” Rand said.

Rand was arrested by the Department of Homeland Security earlier this week after allegedly attacking federal officials.
