Canada’s wildfire season in 2025 was the second worst on record. Scientists link the surge in fires to climate change, which is expanding fire seasons and dry landscapes. According to the Canadian Cross Forest Fire Center, more than 470 fires are currently “out of control”. Military and Coast Guard units were deployed in Newfoundland and Labrador, while the worst fires were concentrated in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario also saw fire activity well above their 25-year average.
